Pilates Mat Classes
WHO SHOULD DO PILATES? Pilates is for everyone...from young to old, sedentary to athletic, male and female. It's for people who are strong or weak, flexible or inflexible. It is also suitable for those seeking rehabilitation from injuries or joint problems and is frequently recommended by GPs, physical therapists & osteopaths. Pilates is used as a complete fitness programme as well as a supplement to other methods of fitness. It is an exercise regime that will educate the body to improve your posture and help you move in a more efficient way. Pilates is for those who want to look and feel better.
It is for those who strive to function at an optimal level, pain-free. Pilates is for those who seek balance in life, wanting to change their lives for the better by enhancing the mind while strengthening the body. Pilates is for anyone and everyone! HOW OFTEN SHOULD I PRACTICE PILATES? With any form of exercise, CONSISTENCY is the key. Attending a weekly class is important to get the technique right and then the more you practice at home the more you will see the benefits. Pilates becomes a way of life just like brushing your teeth or washing your hair, once you experience the benefits you cannot live without it.
WHAT ARE PILATES MAT CLASSES? Pilates mat classes centre around the floor work developed by Joseph Pilates, and range from beginner to advanced exercises. Using the body’s own resistance, a series of movements are performed designed to improve circulation, breathing, posture, and body awareness. My mat classes incorporate small equipment such as bands, stability balls, magic circles and hand weights (all optional). At the end of the session (or the beginning for the gentle pilates classes) we practice relaxation for both mind and body. This can be helpful if you suffer with anxiety or stress.
Cardio Core Classes
The first part of this class consists of classic hi/lo cardio exercises. High impact moves are optional - low impact options & modifications are given throughout this section. The second part of the class focuses on body conditioning exercises based on pilates principles. Focusing on core strength, sculpting & strengthening arms, lower back & glutes. We finish with a cool down stretch. We use small hand weights, resistance bands and small gym balls to vary the workout.
I like to mix it up to make the workouts interesting and varied. There is a mixed age group and ability in these classes, I try and accommodate everyone so you can work to your ability. This is a group class tailored to your own individual requirements.
This unique workout combines the elements of Pilates, resistance training and is ballet inspired. The technique utilises the body’s own resistance in conjunction with weights, bands and pilates balls. The total body workout tones the gluteal muscles and thighs, strengthens the core muscles and sculpts the arms, whilst protecting the joints. Small isometric contractions are performed at a fixed barre and integrated with an interval training approach that burns fat and improves cardiovascular fitness. Posture, flexibility, stamina and core strength improve week by week.
The result is a body that is realigned, rebalanced and works harmoniously and efficiently. This is a low impact fitness class - no dance experience needed.
